Myanmar implements tariff exemptions to boost electric vehicle industry
28 May 2025
Significant tariff changes to promote the development of electronic vehicles in Myanmar came into effect on 1 April 2025. The initiative was announced by the Myanmar Ministry of Planning and Finance via Notification No. 27/2025 on 31 March 2025 and will be in place until 31 March 2026.
Notification No. 27/202 has reduced the customs duty rate for battery electric vehicles (“BEVs”) and their essential components and accessories, as specified in Myanmar’s 2022 Customs Tariff, to zero percent. This exemption applies to BEVs that operate solely on electric batteries and includes vehicles imported in completely built-up, completely knocked down, and semi-knocked down forms.
