On 27 December 2019, the Malaysian Trademarks Act 2019 (“New Act”) came into force, repealing the previous Trade Marks Act 1976. The New Act brings about revolutionary changes to trademark laws and practice in Malaysia.

The New Act introduces many major changes that bring Malaysia’s trademark regime more into line with international trademark standards and practice, and align Malaysia’s trademark laws with those of other developed Commonwealth nations.
