This article provides guidance for companies on requirements for the newly launched Malaysian Business Reporting System 2.0 (“MBRS 2.0”) to submit information on their annual returns, financial statements and reports, and exemption applications related to the same.

This second iteration of the Companies Commission of Malaysia’s online platform was launched on 26 November 2024, an update from the original introduced on 27 September 2018. It has been mandatory since 1 March 2019 for companies to digitally submit information on their annual returns, certificates for exempt private companies, and unaudited financial statements and reports via MBRS.

This article begins with a summary of financial reporting requirements applicable to companies in Malaysia and follows with an explanation of how MBRS 2.0 must be followed for these requirements.
