Rahmat Lim & Partners is pleased to be featured in The Legal Industry Reviews: Malaysia (Edition 4, August 2025).

In her Banking & Finance article, Partner Geraldine Su discusses financial assistance in Malaysia. In corporate law, financial assistance refers to a situation where a company provides loans, guarantees, or other forms of support to facilitate the purchase of its own shares or those of its holding company. Such transactions carry significant implications, particularly for the protection of creditors and the integrity of a company’s capital. In Malaysia, the regulation of financial assistance is governed by two distinct legislative regimes: the Companies Act 2016 and the Labuan Companies Act 1990.

In his Energy article, Partner Dzuhairi Jaafar Thani discusses Malaysia's latest solar energy programme, the Community Renewable Energy Aggregation Mechanism (“CREAM”). In February 2025, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation of Malaysia ("PETRA") introduced CREAM which allows the aggregation of multiple residential rooftops for the generation of solar power, for supply to local consumers. PETRA believes that CREAM will facilitate the widespread adoption of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in residential areas across Malaysia and significantly contribute to the country’s energy transition goals, particularly in efforts to increase the share of renewable energy capacity to 70% by 2050.
