Malaysia introduces Corporate Green Power Programme
29 November 2022
In August 2022, the then Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob, announced at the 5th International Sustainable Energy Summit that the Government would approve the allocation and redistribution of renewable energy resources to boost Malaysia’s energy transition commitment. A quota of 600MW was offered for the procurement of green electricity supply to corporate companies through virtual power purchase agreements (“VPPA”). On 19 September 2022, the National Energy Policy 2022-2040 (“NEP”) was launched.
On 7 November 2022, in line with the announcement of the NEP, the Energy Commission issued the Corporate Green Power Programme (for Solar PV Plants) (“CGPP Guide”), which provides guidelines on the implementation of the VPPA mechanism in Malaysia.
