Bank Negara Malaysia issues Policy Document on Operational Risk Reporting

On 30 January 2026, Bank Negara Malaysia (“BNM”) issued a policy document on Operational Risk Reporting (“ORR”) (“Policy Document”), which came into effect on the same day and supersedes the ORR policy document issued on 10 April 2025. Pursuant to the Policy Document, reporting entities (“REs”) are required to submit information relating to operational risk exposures, in particular Loss Event Data and Key Risk Indicators, to BNM through the ORR system.

The Policy Document aims to:

• promote more structured reporting of relevant operational risk types across all REs;
• streamline reporting through the enhanced ORR system; and
• improve clarity of reporting requirements with the inclusion of examples and scenarios.
