Seng Yik’s areas of practice include private mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, foreign investment and advising on general corporate and commercial law.

He has acted on numerous notable M&A transactions, and he regularly acts for private equity funds and institutional investors on M&A transactions across a wide range of industries including education, retail and consumer, financial services and manufacturing. He also regularly advises foreign clients and firms on cross-border corporate transactions and restructurings.

Seng Yik is a member of the Firm’s China Practice Group and is fluent in Mandarin, both written and spoken.

Seng Yik graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honors) from the University of London. He was admitted as a Barrister with Lincoln's Inn in 2014 and joined the Firm as pupil in the same year.

Work Highlights

  • Advised Citibank Berhad as local counsel on the disposal of its consumer banking business to United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd., as part of Citibank group’s strategic refresh to shift the focus of its consumer business in Asia and EMEA to wealth management, and further strengthen its institutional network across Asia Pacific.
  • Advised KV Asia Capital on its acquisition of APIIT Education Group, comprising Asia Pacific University, APIIT and Asia Pacific Schools, and its subsequent disposal of APIIT Education Group.
  • Advised Intermediate Capital Group on its acquisition of TF Value-Mart Sdn. Bhd., a leading operator of grocery retail stores across Malaysia known as TF Value-Mart from another private equity, KV Asia Capital.
