Azim is a Partner in the Firm’s Projects & International Arbitration Department. His primary area of practice is dispute resolution. He regularly advises and represents clients before all levels of the Malaysian courts, including proceedings in the High Court and appeals to the Court of Appeal and Federal Court, as well as in adjudication, arbitration, and mediation.
He has acted for Malaysian and multinational clients across a broad range of disputes. In the area of admiralty and shipping law, he regularly advises and represents banks, shipowners, cargo owners, and other interested parties in relation to vessel arrests, enforcement of ship mortgages, release of cargo from vessels under arrest, and disputes arising out of bills of lading and charterparties.
Azim maintains a broad-based disputes practice, with particular emphasis in construction and infrastructure adjudication and arbitration, complex commercial litigation, corporate insolvency (including contentious liquidations and corporate rescue mechanisms), and corporate and shareholders’ disputes.
Azim has served as the Treasurer of the International Malaysian Society of Maritime Law (IMSML) since May 2023 and is a member of the Bar Council Shipping and Admiralty Law Committee (SALC) since May 2022.

- United Overseas Bank Ltd v. The Owners And/Or Demise Charterers Of And/Or Other Persons Interested In The Ship Or Vessel "Limin Rosmina"; Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (Intervener) [2023] 8 CLJ 649, involving a successful application by United Overseas Bank Ltd before the High Court for sale of a vessel, “Limin Rosmina”, to the third highest bidder across two rounds of tenders.
- HSBC International Trustee Ltd & Anor v. Tan Boon Thien & Another Case [2023] 2 CLJ 486, involving the successful enforcement by HSBC International Trustee Ltd of a Singapore judgment before the High Court of Malaya.
- Excel M&E Sdn Bhd v. Mujur Sepakat Sdn Bhd [2023] CLJU 2747, involving a judgment of approximately RM 11.9 million obtained by Excel M&E Sdn Bhd in respect of construction works performed for a luxury hotel and office tower in Kuantan, as well as the successful resistance of counterclaims amounting to approximately RM 66.5 million in respect of alleged liquidated damages and other claims.
