On 22 January 2018, the Myanmar Ministry of Commerce issued a notification announcing its approval for export of 22 types of products by joint venture businesses (“Notification”). The Notification lists 22 types of goods which are locally manufactured by foreign investors under a joint-venture with Myanmar citizens, which are allowed to be exported. The list of goods includes plastic, purified ores, and gasoline. The Ministry aims to promote productivity by expanding the range of products for export to foreign markets or to have more opportunities to access foreign markets. Foreign joint venture businesses must comply with criteria set out in the Notification, such as that the goods exported must be high-standard goods that are locally manufactured by the business itself or using locally purchased goods.
