On 10 April 2020, the Prime Minister of Malaysia announced (“Announcement”) that the “Movement Control Order” (“MCO”) would be further extended, and that selected economic sectors would be allowed to operate in stages subject to strict guidelines on health and safety during the so-called “third phase” of the MCO from 15 April 2020 to 28 April 2020 (“Third Phase Period”).

In light of the Announcement, it is expected that further regulations will be issued pursuant to the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 to outline measures to combat the COVID-19 outbreak during the Third Phase Period.
